The first time I visited Watkins Glen State Park, I was immediately struck by how beautiful it was. This canyon in the earth smack in the middle of the town of Watkins Glen, NY. It is, perhaps, the most beautiful & easily accessible state park I’ve ever visited.

The two mile Gorge Trail runs past 19 waterfalls & is relatively easy to traverse, if you don’t mind muddy shoes, a lot of crowds & a few stairs. During our recent visit to the Finger Lakes, I took along my DSLR to capture some slow shutter speed waterfall photos. I’m not much of a nature photographer, but the Gorge could definitely change that.

  1. Beautiful – it kind of reminds me of the ‘pancake rocks’ in New Zealand.

    1. Thanks! They are similar. I never thought I’d say this, but I really am becoming outdoorsy!

  2. I went to college close to Watkins Glen and your pictures are making me very nostalgic! It’s too bad I don’t have an “Ithaca is Gorges” shirt anymore. :)

  3. Really nice photos :)

  4. Wow, those photos look amazing!

  5. Wow, great photos! We had no idea about this, and will have to visit next time we are nearby. (Probably best to wait till it warms up a bit. ;)

    1. Probably should wait until spring ;)
