I recently took a little poll of my Twitter followers to see who had a “real” job that was totally non-travel related. I was surprised to find out that a lot of travelers who I admire, including two who will be guest blogging here next week, don’t actually work in the travel industry full time. I hope you can’t tell from my blog, but I don’t either. For 40+ hours a week, I work in PR for a health non-profit. It’s a job I enjoy, but, as most people who know me know, my real passion is travel.Earlier this week I turned down an opportunity to work in travel full time. While I know I made the right decision, my heart still broke a little. After all, who doesn’t want to get paid to do what they’re passionate about? In the end though, I know that other opportunities will come along that are a better fit for me.
I’m really looking forward to this nine day trip to Barbados we’re embarking on tomorrow, & not just because it’s 85 degrees there right now. I do some of my best thinking sitting on the beach as the waves crash around my toes. I feel like my life is going a mile a minute right now & it’s definitely time to take a deep breath & pause to remember how lucky I am. After all, while my “real” job might not be my love, it allows me enough pay & vacation days to pursue my passion – how lucky I am.
P.S. While I’m gone, keep checking in here. I have a great line up of guest bloggers who have some amazing stories to share all next week!
