Our recent Maine coastal road trip began in Portland with a two night stay at the Inn at Park Spring. The inn is located in a residential neighborhood & is tucked inside a renovated row house originally built in 1835. When we arrived mid-afternoon, we were greeted by John, the very friendly innkeeper, & a big map – he was enthusiastic to chat about Portland restaurants, lighthouses & neighborhoods.
We stayed in the Spring Room, which is a pretty large room, given the age of the house. We had a super comfortable bed, & a small seating area that was well lit by the east and south facing windows. While the room itself was nicely decorated, the bathroom was decorated in some seriously floral wallpaper – very much in the style of a traditional bed & breakfast. We slept with the windows open both nights, happy to be somewhere cool, but the window a/c unit would have been more than adequate if needed. Most wonderfully, there was no TV in the room – how refreshing! There is a public TV available in the main sitting room if you really can’t bear to be without. The Spring Room faces a semi-busy intersection & that there is a hospital nearby, so cars & sirens may bother a light sleeper who isn’t used to an urban area.
Breakfast was good both mornings, if less healthy than what we usually eat at home – one morning a croque madame, one morning a different fried egg dish – but both mornings started with fruit. In true bed & breakfast style, everyone is served at a community table where chatting & sharing travel tips is encouraged. Coffee was good & hot & my husband enjoyed the mini-muffins & cinnamon rolls which seemed to always be available. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests – who varied widely by age – & John, who often mingled throughout breakfast.
Overall, it was a very comfortable place to stay for our first two nights in Maine!
Remember, I’m not paid or perk’d to write this…
I just genuinely really enjoyed the ridiculously good breakfast here & had no choice but to share it with you!
