One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning in New York City is to hit up the Greenmarket in Union Square Park. This huge farmers market (well, huge by my farmers market standards, at least), always has a wide variety of produce, flowers, crafts, jams, & 50 million other little things that you never knew you needed or wanted. I think the best time to visit is in the fall (when apples, pumpkins, apple doughnuts & warm apple cider abound) or in December (when the market expands & turns into a full-fledged holiday market).Like any farmers market, it is best to arrive early for the best selection. Grab some breakfast & coffee from one of the vendors & pull up a chair in Union Square Park for a little breakfast al fresco. Once you’re done farmers market-ing, take some time to explore the Union Square & Flatiron neighborhoods. There are many boutique shops selling everything from organic baby clothes to shoes to 18 miles worth of books.
The Union Square Greenmarket is located on the north & west sides of Union Square Park & is open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 8:00am – 6:00pm. The easiest way to get there is via subway to the 14th Street-Union Square station (N. Q. R. L. 4. 5. 6. 6x).
