One of the best things about living in Washington, D.C. is access to a lot of amazing hotels. The Kimpton brand, especially, has several really great properties in the D.C.-area, including three in my neighborhood of Old Town, Alexandria. One of their newest properties is the Lorien Hotel & Spa. We’ve stayed at the Lorien a few times & we always send our out of town guests there (in fact my Dad is staying there this weekend!).
The last time we stayed there was because of a plumbing snafu in our one bathroom house, which resulted in us not having a working bathroom for a night. Enter: the Lorien. Upon hearing that we were locals with a sob story, the team at the front desk sprung into action & even upgraded our room to a suite. If plumbing issues weren’t such a headache, & only meant that I got to stay at the Lorien more often, I say bring them on!
Check out the amazing Hospitality Suite we stayed in one gloomy January day:
Kimpton’s other great Old Town properties:
Hotel Monaco: great patio, awesome decor, & right in the middle of all the action
Morrison House: feels like a B&B or a small inn – charming & intimate
If you stay at the Lorien…
– they do have an on-site spa which I’m very torn about. The treatments are top notch – I’ve had the best message ever here. But the locker rooms & relaxation room are seriously lacking. The locker room is very small & only separated from the rest of the spa by a curtain. The relaxation room is actually a pass through from the front of the spa to the treatment rooms, so doors are constantly opening & closing. There’s also limited seating. So not a great spa for a true pampering experiences, but an excellent place to pop down for a massage or a facial.
– the restaurant on site, Brabo, is one of the best in DC. Get all dressed up & head to the tasting room.
– like many Kimpton properties, the Lorien has a great evening wine hour
– make sure & join the Kimpton InTouch Guest Rewards program before your stay because the perks are awesome. They include free wifi & my favorite hotel guest rewards perk anywhere: permission to “raid the mini-bar!” Take anything from the mini-bar up to $10. Now how fun is that?
