One of my 31 for 31 items was to “go on a long hike on the trail at Great Falls.” Great Falls is a national park just outside of Washington, D.C. It’s an amazing place to visit – the roaring Potomac River drops 76 feet over the falls in a beautiful park that spans two states (Maryland & Virginia). While you’re there, it’s hard to believe that you’re just outside of a major metropolitan city.
A highlight of the park is their hiking trails. One of the more difficult is the Billy Goat Trail, located within the C&O Canal portion of the park in Maryland. On a nice Sunday in May – the day after I returned from yet another business trip – B suggested we head up to the park & give the trail a shot. I don’t think either of us were prepared for exactly how hard the trail would be in sections (there’s a 50′ traverse to climb!), but it was challenging & fun & the views made every tough section worth it.

Hi Christina
Loved this piece, it brought back memories when I hiked the Billy Goat Trail. What I thought was going to be an easy walking hike, I didn’t know was going to be 4 miles of rock. LOL. But it’s something I want to do again. I love challenging myself.
