Note October 2016: 70 Park is no longer owned by Kimpton & I haven’t stayed there since their transition. If you have, let me know how it is by leaving a comment below!
During my whirlwind of business travel this year, I found myself in New York City twice in three weeks. By total happenstance (someone else booked my hotel the second time), I found myself staying at the same hotel on both trips. In a city of nearly a million hotel rooms, I love to hop around, but I wasn’t complaining about staying at the same place twice this time, as that hotel was the awesome 70 Park Avenue.
This super cute, 200 room boutique hotel is located at 38th & Park Ave. in a dynamite Midtown location. Owned by Kimpton, one of my favorite hotel brands, this stylish property features all the Kimpton perks that make their properties a great place to stay, especially if you’re an InTouch member. In fact, you should absolutely sign up to be an InTouch member before you stay with Kimpton, as the perks are awesome: free wifi, a credit to raid the mini-bar (I usually end up with something pathetically adult like bottled water & almonds), room preferences, an evening wine reception, & access to upgraded rooms, if they’re available.
During my two 70 Park Ave stays, I stayed in two different types of rooms: a Queen Deluxe & a King Premiere. Both were decorated nearly identically (which is fine), in stylish purples, creamy browns & crisp whites. The rooms were a large size for New York, especially the Premiere, which is positively palatial. I really want to steal the bathroom & put it in my own house (the vintage style was awesome), especially the bathroom from the King Premiere room which has a jacuzzi tub.
One of my favorite things about 70 Park is that even though it’s located in the heart of New York, the sleep quality is really high. The rooms are crazy quiet, even as low as the 5th floor facing Park Ave., & the beds are Kimpton-comfy.
My biggest complaint about this hotel? Other than a small coffee shop which is open in the morning, there isn’t any food available. No room service, no hot dinner options, nothing. As a business traveler, having easy access to dinner after a long day of meetings is almost essential. 70 Park’s lack of food just means you need to do a little advanced planning – nearby, I love Madison & Vine (located a few blocks away in the Library Hotel at 41st & Madison) or the Grand Central Oyster Bar (located a few blocks away in Grand Central Station).
So when you find yourself looking for a place to rest your head in New York City in the future, consider staying at 70 Park for it’s great location, fashionable style & friendly service.
