In 1803, the Lieutenant Governor declared the area where St. Lawrence Market now stands to be “Market Block” & a farmers market popped up. In 1831 the small wooden structure which housed the farmers market & St. Lawrence Market as we see today was formed.
One of two markets in Toronto, this vibrant market now consists of the north & south market buildings, which house hundreds of vendors selling everything from produce to meat to seafood to baked goods to a very famous sandwich. We stopped by mid-afternoon on a gloomy Saturday & found the market packed with shoppers.
