A few weeks ago, B & I spent some time in Alberta exploring Calgary & the Canadian Rockies. I was there to write a guide for Travel Alberta, but ended up falling madly in love with the area, especially Banff & Jasper National Parks.
No sponsored, planned, tourism board promoted trip (as this one was) could match the majesty of Mother Nature herself. Being a bit of a coastal beach girl myself, I was surprised how transformed I felt in the mountains. The air was clear (& thin & quite chilly) & the mountain smell was just tranquil. Even though the weather didn’t really coraporate (it rained every day & was overcast throughout our trip), like a teenager with a first crush, I saw past the gray clouds. We hiked all over the place, drove slowly down the highways & side roads in search of wildlife (finally saw a bear on a ski lift!) & ate ourselves silly with Canadian comfort food. My only regret of the trip? Since I was there to write a guide about specific attractions, we didn’t get nearly enough time to stop for spontaneous hikes & photos. When we go back, there will only be a three things on the agenda: hiking, shooting a crazy number of photos & taking plenty of time to just enjoy the view.
I’ll be sharing all sorts of fun stories & experiences in the coming weeks, but here are some photos in the meantime…
