The first time I visited Watkins Glen State Park, I was immediately struck by how beautiful it was. This canyon in the earth smack in the middle of the town of Watkins Glen, NY. It is, perhaps, the most beautiful & easily accessible state park I’ve ever visited.
The two mile Gorge Trail runs past 19 waterfalls & is relatively easy to traverse, if you don’t mind muddy shoes, a lot of crowds & a few stairs. During our recent visit to the Finger Lakes, I took along my DSLR to capture some slow shutter speed waterfall photos. I’m not much of a nature photographer, but the Gorge could definitely change that.

Beautiful – it kind of reminds me of the ‘pancake rocks’ in New Zealand.

Thanks! They are similar. I never thought I’d say this, but I really am becoming outdoorsy!

I went to college close to Watkins Glen and your pictures are making me very nostalgic! It’s too bad I don’t have an “Ithaca is Gorges” shirt anymore. :)

Wow, great photos! We had no idea about this, and will have to visit next time we are nearby. (Probably best to wait till it warms up a bit. ;)
