All up & down the coast of Maine are great casual dining spots. Here are a few of our favorites in Portland (Gilbert’s Chowder House & Portland Lobster Company), Camden (Cappy’s Chowder House & Fresh) & Bar Harbor (West Street Cafe).
——-
Gilbert’s Chowder House – Don’t let the name fool you: Gilbert’s is about way more than chowder. While their New England Clam Chowder *is* to die for, the lobster rolls should be the reason to keep coming back. Located right on the waterfront, (in season) grab a spot on the back deck & enjoy a cold lobster roll overflowing with sweet meat (mayo optional). It’s very casual – picnic tables, cardboard baskets, plastic cups – but oh so good.
