On the south side of the city, along 9th Street, is a Philadelphia treasure: the Italian Market. Suckers for public markets & farmers markets, the Italian Market was high on our list of things to do during our visit to the City of Brotherly Love.
An entire street (& parts of side streets) filled with authentic Italian stores selling homemade mozzarella, Italian cookies & wedding cakes, produce, meat & pasta. My one-quarter-Italian heart sang as we wandered among the crowds, dodging people screaming in Italian while gesturing wildly with their hands.
We stopped by Anthony’s Italian Coffee House for breakfast: a latte & homemade biscotti, both made by a real, authentic Italian person (not my smug neighborhood Starbucks barista).
If you’re a fan of market or food or Italians or colorful photography or discovering the true roots of a city, a visit to the Italian Market is a must.
