While tootling around Hershey & Harrisburg, Pennsylvania a few weeks ago, we decided to make a Sunday morning pit-stop at the majestic looking Pennsylvania State Capitol Building. We happened to wander in just as a tour was starting, so we got to tag along with a bunch of Girl Scouts to learn about the House, Senate & Supreme Court.
Did you know Pennsylvania is the only state with a roaming Supreme Court, meaning they meet at various places around the state, rather than just in the Supreme Court chamber in Harrisburg?
Did you know the chandeliers in the House chamber are so tall that an adult human could stand up inside one?
Did you know that Theodore Roosevelt, who happens to be one of my favorite presidents, dedicated the building?
Did you know there’s absolutely nothing to do in downtown Harrisburg on a Sunday morning?
Okay, so Harrisburg might be a little sleepy on Sunday morning, but if you’re driving through town, it’s worth a stop at the state capitol building, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s free to take a guided tour, or you can just explore the first floor on your own.
