Restaurant Review: Marriners Restaurant; Camden, Maine

When we travel, we try to eat locally whenever possible (i.e. no chains allowed!). I love finding local gems by asking store clerks, baristas, & waitresses what their favorite places in town are, which is exactly how we found Marriners Restaurantin Camden. We stumbled into Marriners early one morning before we headed out to kayak. You really get the true character of a restaurant at 6am. We munched on early bird specials – eggs, bacon, hashbrowns & coffee for $4.99 – among the quiet hum of locals crumpling newspaper & quietly exchanging morning pleasantry. We splurged ($8) on giant Maine blueberry pancakes & sank our teeth into fresh blueberry muffins the size of softballs.

The food was served at diner speed & the service was “no nonsense” & friendly. The only downside? It was too chilly to sit on the back deck, which overlooks Camden harbor & Camden falls.

We liked Marriners so much, we actually ate there two mornings in a row. If there had been a third morning, we would have been there then too.
