If you’ve been to NYC any time in the past three years, surely you’ve heard of Eataly. The brainchild of chef Mario Batali (& others), it’s a giant market/cafe/restaurant/beer garden/tasting room extravaganza across from Madison Square Park. I visited Eataly for the first time during my last trip to New York City & was totally unprepared for how enormous this ode to Italy is. I tugged open the door to a seemingly small cafe & entered into a world of everything Italian. It was a feast for the senses: colorful produce & Italian products fill every square inch of the place. As you walk through, your nose picks up scents of cheese being handmade, pasta being boiled, hot bread coming out of the oven & coffee beans being ground. It’s a chaotic sight to see – you literally don’t know where to look. Several times, I said to myself (aloud, I fear): “This is unbelievable.”
