Busch Gardens Tampa

Last summer, I told you why Busch Gardens Williamsburg was the perfect DINK summer destination. During our Memorial Day visit to the Tampa Bay area, we spent a day at Busch Gardens Tampa. While BG Williamsburg is definitely a beautiful park, Tampa has them beat in one area: really, awesome animals.

Know if you go…
– the best way to see the animals is on the train. Try to sit on the left hand side, as that will be the side that most of the animals will be on.
– grab dinner, a snack or a beer (!) at Colony House Restaurant. They have a veranda out back that gives you amazing views of the animals.
– the animals are especially active during the evening hours when the heat of the day has dissipated and it’s chow time.
– don’t think that Bush Gardens is just about animals, it’s also home to some awesome thrill rides. My favorite? Montu, a long inverted roller coaster. It’s worth standing in line for the front row – you feel like you’re flying!

  1. This look surreal. The giraffes and rhinos seem very comfortable. It reminds me of the giraffe center in Nairobi Kenya.

Isn’t it crazy? The giraffes I could almost believe – they’re used to being hand fed by people at the park. But I couldn’t believe how close we were to the rhinos. That shot was taken from a train and the rhinos could have walked up to the train, no barrier or anything!
