St. Michaels, Maryland has lot of places to grab a beverage & enjoy this beautiful coastal town. In addition to a number of cafes & restaurants, why not grab a drink right from the producer?
Lyon Distilling
Ben Lyon & Jaime Windon – last time we saw them they were running the St. Michaels Dr. Dodson House B&B – opened up Lyon Distilling in 2013. I can certifiably say that they’re making the best ultra small batch, handcrafted rum & whisky this side of the Mississippi. The day we visited, they were sampling their dark rum, white rum & an amazingly smooth corn whiskey (aka moonshine!). Jamie’s mom was working behind the tasting bar that busy Saturday & we had fun chatting with her about all Ben’s secrets to creating smooth, tasty liquor. We took home a bottle of while rum, ready for a summer full of Rum n’ Coke on our back patio.
Eastern Shore Brewing Company
Eastern Shore Brewing Company is the longest continually operating brewery on the Eastern Shore. Everything is brewed right there in their little St. Michaels location, which was hopping the afternoon B & I stopped by. We ordered a tasting sampler of six beers for $12 & sidled up to a ledge to do our sipping. L-R below, we tried St. Michaels Ale (B’s favorite), Duck Duck Goose Porter, Knot So Pale Ale, El Pepe Mexican Lager (super spicy!), Springtime Pale Ale (my favorite) & Winter Warmer (high alcohol content!). It was a fun (albeit) crowded stop on our afternoon St. Michaels tour & my only regret was that we didn’t take a growler with us.
