Hotel Review: Bass Cottage Inn; Bar Harbor, Maine

After mostly moderately priced accommodations during our stay in Maine, we were both looking forward to the Bass Cottage Innin Bar Harbor, Maine, our splurge of the trip. When we arrived a bit earlier than check-in, Jeffrey, the inn keeper, met us at the door & gave a fantastic lunch suggestion (Side Street Cafe), guaranteeing that check-in would be ready when we returned. Upon returning from lunch, we were greeted by Greg, the day host, who gave us a tour of the Inn & shared its history (the summer house of a politican from Bangor), checked us in, & led us up to our comfortable room, #5. Although it’s one of the smaller rooms in the inn, it felt very comfortable and not at all cramped. The styling in the room was very well thought out- New England, coastal, fresh & crisp.

We took full advantage of all the wonderful amenities in the Inn, including the 24/7 pantry where we enjoyed complimentary coffee & fresh baked goods (the orange bars are nothing short of amazing!), the relaxing adirondack chairs they have in the backyard (the perfect place to read with a glass of wine), & the amazing breakfast they offer every morning (come down to the table hungry, as your expectations will be exceeded with lemon zest french toast, strawberry yogurt parfaits & crispy apple maple bacon). We enjoyed talking with Jeffrey & Greg throughout our visit, getting recommendations on places to eat (Greg smartly recommended the Mache Bistro for our dinner the final night we were there – it was one of the the best meals of our trip), talking with Jeffrey about their travels & life in Maine. I wish we would have had the chance to meet Teri, Jeffrey’s wife & inn keeping partner in crime, but we greatly enjoyed her cooking the evening we dined at the Inn’s restaurant, 10 Tables. It was fine dining, but felt comfortable & not stuffy in the least.

With its great location in the middle of town, but tucked back where it’s a little quieter, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Bass Cottage Inn the next time I’m on Mt. Desert Island.

  2. […] Bass Cottage Inn is a luxury inn nestled in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, Maine. This ten-room inn is one of my favorite properties we’ve ever stayed in. The breakfast was phenomenal & is served in their beautiful, light-filled former restaurant. Our blue & white room oozed New England charm. The best thing about the location was that we could park & go everywhere we wanted to: cycling into the park, walking to dinner & just a few steps to the water & into a pair of kayaks. […]
