“Just go down this gravel path & you’ll feel like you’re walking through someone’s yard, but I promise they don’t mind that you are,” our innkeeper Jamie said. I had heard her mention a secret beach in St. Michaels the day before &, being a huge sucker for any sort of beach, decided we simply had to go find it.
Using a combination of her directions & Google maps, we parked our car at the boat dock (ignoring the large sign that said permit parking only) & walked down the gravel path.

We followed the path around, very much feeling like we were walking on someone’s property & soon arrived at the end of the road. To our right, there it was: the secret beach.

B & I kicked off our shoes. I squished my toes in the cool Chesapeake Bay sand. The grains felt rocky under my feet, nothing like the powder white sand I was used to in Barbados. But sand is sand, a beach is a beach, & I was a happy beach girl for a moment.

As we walked back to the car along someone’s gravel path, I noticed all the little flowers growing in trees & bushes along the road – I hadn’t noticed them on the way down.
Perhaps life just seems a little sweeter when you’ve found an unexpected (secret) moment of bliss.

I absolutely love secret beaches! Lovely find!
Can you please tell me where you found it? I would love to go!
Sadly, Karen, I don’t know that even I could find it again! If you head to the public boat dock (where you can access the water to put your boat in), you walk down a winding path from there. I bet if you asked around, someone would be able to give you better directions.
Looking for beaches near Annapolis and a friend recommended St. Michael’s
St. Michaels doesn’t actually have a regular, swim able beach. I actually don’t know of any bear Annapolis, without driving to Ocean City (which is only about an hour away).
There are actually quite a few of public beaches in MD without having to drive to OC. Curtis Bay area has some and there are a bunch around the Key Bridge…The locals know of them. Being from Baltimore City, we use to go to them when I was a kid.
Yes! This is by no means the only beach.
Christina….this beach is actually in Claiborne…about 5 minutes from Saint Michaels 🏖
