‘I shouldn’t,’ I thought over & over & over.
‘But I’ve been walking a lot, all morning really,’ I reasoned with myself.
‘Really, it’s a service to my blog. It’s a New York institution!’
I continued debating internally as I stood in the very short line, squinting at the tiny menu, slowly losing willpower.
Finally it was the moment of truth: I was next in line. Before I knew it, I was ordering a cheeseburger, fries & a chocolate peanut butter milkshake. At the original Shake Shack! The one that started it all! The burger, fries & shake shack tucked into the corner of Madison Square Park. I was thrilled.
They called my number at the pick-up window after a brief delay & despite the fact that it was early March, the weather was warm enough to sit outside at a little cafe table in the sun, enjoying my burger with a winter coat on (not as weird as it sounds!). I tried to enjoy each delicious bite, having to restrain myself from just shoving the whole thing in my face because it was so darn good.
If you find yourself in the Big Apple, you too can enjoy a bite of NYC food lore; there are several Shake Shacks to choose from, including the original in Madison Square Park & a giant location on 8th in the Theater District. If you can’t make it to New York, they now have several other locations as well, including one dangerously close to my office in DC.

I’ve never been to Shake Shack but I heard we are getting one in Chicago (where I live) so I can finally experience! Now all the Midwest needs is In and Out!

Shake Shack burgers are really good! I had them while I was in NY and the queue was crazily long. Love the weather in early summer and eating with squirrels running around, pretty cute!

I put every Shake Shack location on my Google Map! I ended up at the one in Brooklyn. :) It’s good but it’s not AMAZING/end of the world. I liked the shakes. I like that there is wine. Both do not go together.
